Requirements: Download and install Python from http://www.python.org/ Download and install wxPython, corresponding to the Python version you have, from http://www.wxpython.org/ Python is a programming language, in which PDesk and Pdesk plugins are coded. wxPython is a GUI (graphical user interface) library, that will allow to add GUI to your plugin. You can use GUI for simple options, "OK" or "YES/NO" buttons, for example. Though, wxPython is not necessary, if you plan to develop a plugin that has no GUI. Laurent Burgbacher published very useful documentation for developers of plugins: http://www.alawa.ch/index.php?show=13&language=en&menu=0&mainlang=en If you are advanced in programming and Python, it might be helpful to you to download PDesk sources at http://www.sf.net/projects/pdesk/ Look at the already existing plugins. Some are packed with your PDesk installation, in the plugins directory, additional you can download from http://groups.yahoo.com/group/progect/files/ How to test/debug a plugin? Once you run a plugin, and it doesn't seem to work, look at the logfiles in the PDesk directory. In the log.txt, most often you will see a helpful explanation of the problem. Do I need to compile plugins? You don't need to compile the .py plugin source file. Just put it into plugins directory, PDesk will take care of compilation on the start.
